Officially opened in 1998, Cape Chignecto is managed by a three-way agreement between Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (NSDNR), the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association (CREDA) and the local community, through a volunteer management board.

The development of Cape Chignecto and its on-going operation is possible through cooperative funding from a number of partners including:

  • Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
  • Nova Scotia Department of Economic Development
  • Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources
  • Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage
  • Municipality of Cumberland County

How to Reach Us


Cape Chignecto Provincial Park is located in West Advocate Harbour, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada.  It is approximately a 1 hour and 10 minute drive from Amherst or 40 minutes from Parrsboro.

From Halifax, Nova Scotia:

  • On the Trans-Canada Highway from Halifax at exit 12, keep RIGHT onto Ramp (HWY-4 / HWY-2 / Masstown / Glenholme / LR. Debert)
  • At stop sign turn RIGHT onto HWY-2
  • Drive approx. 4 km and access left turning lane, turn LEFT to stay on HWY-2 (Parrsboro, Five Islands)
  • Stay on HWY-2 for approx. 65 km, this will bring you to Downtown Parrsboro
  • At the stop sign turn RIGHT to stay on HWY-2 (drive approx. 3 km)
  • Turn LEFT onto HWY-209 (drive approx. 45 km)
  • Go through Advocate Harbour and turn LEFT onto the West Advocate Road approx 2 km

From Moncton, New Brunswick:

  • On the Trans-Canada Highway from Moncton at exit 4, keep RIGHT onto Ramp (HWY-2 / Amherst / Springhill / Parrsboro)
  • Turn RIGHT onto HWY-2 (drive approx. 3 km)
  • Turn RIGHT onto HWY-302 (drive approx. 9 km)
  • Turn RIGHT onto HWY-242 turn LEFT onto Shule road (drive approx. 45 km)
  • In Apple River turn LEFT to access HWY-209 (drive approx. 1km)
  • At stop sign turn LEFT onto HWY-209 (drive approx. 17 km)
  • Turn right onto the West Advocate road (drive approx. 2 km)
